CentOS 7 Hotspot Setup

This applies to the Hotspot setting in CentOS 7’s Gnome 3 desktop > System Tools > Settings > Network > Wi-Fi Hotspot:

In terminal get root access and

nano /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-Hotspot

HWADDR=???
ESSID=”???”
SSID_HIDDEN=yes
MODE=Ap
TYPE=Wireless
BOOTPROTO=shared
DEFROUTE=yes
IPV4_FAILURE_FATAL=no
IPV6INIT=yes
IPV6_AUTOCONF=yes
IPV6_DEFROUTE=yes
IPV6_FAILURE_FATAL=no
NAME=Hotspot
UUID=??
ONBOOT=yes
KEY_MGMT=WPA-PSK
WPA_ALLOW_WPA=no
WPA_ALLOW_WPA2=yes
IPV6_PEERDNS=yes
IPV6_PEERROUTES=yes
IPV6_PRIVACY=no

Adjust ???.  This is not complete.  DNS customization doesn’t stick.  WPA2 key is same as root user’s password.  But it gets the Hotspot working and changes from WEP to WPA2.

CentOS 7 Installation Media

Moving from Windows 8.1 Pro to CentOS 7.

CentOS 7 Everything requires about 8 GB space.

UNetbootin successfully created the media, but the installation failed.

Win32DiskImager v. 0.9.5 created the media, and this worked.

During installation, check the resolution:  if the resolution is not 3840 x 2160 on a capable display, set motherboard settings to default and retry.

CentOS 7 Post-installation

Update software.

Add EPEL repository:

rpm --import http://li.nux.ro/download/nux/RPM-GPG-KEY-nux.ro

Update the repolist:

yum repolist

Install additional software:  Claws Mail, telnet, FileZilla, Remmina, Wireshark, etc.
